Life’s Sweet (And Healthier!) With Agave

Author: Green Cyprus  //  Category: Talk About Food

Agave is a natural sweetener similar to honey and derived from the plant that is used in making tequila. It can be used to sweeten both food and drink. With the dangers to your health presented by too much sugar consumption, it makes sense to eliminate processed sugar from your diet and if you need a sweetener, opt for Agave instead.

Agave syrup is a low-glycemic sweetener which makes it superior to sugar. Sugar is a processed sweetener that has no nutritive value, other than calories. And agave, as compared to other sweeteners, has a desirable low-glycemic index. This means that when consumed, it won’t cause a sharp rise or fall in blood sugar.

Check out this list of sweeteners and corresponding glycemic values. The higher the value, the bigger the impact on blood sugar.
